Welcome to my portfolio! My name is Bethany Hale, Ms. Hale to my students and Bee amongst friends. I am a VCUarts graduate and certified art educator. I have been teaching at Caroline High School for the past 5 years where I have specialized in teaching Art, Photo I and Photo II.
Artist Statement
I believe that art is a form of communication as essential as the written and spoken word. In terms of expertise, I like to consider myself a "Jack of all Trades." I don't like to pigeon-hole myself into one medium and enjoy working with a variety of traditional AND digital materials. I love to explore themes of identity, emotion and expression in my work and have a special interest in portraiture, particularly portraits of Acorn, my 3-legged senior cat.
Teaching Philosophy
As an art educator I believe that every individual has a unique and incalculably valuable story to tell. Art is one of the most effective and unifying means of communicating one's story, and it is the duty of every art educator to give their students the guidance, resources and outlet to do so. I also believe it is my duty as an educator to never stop teaching myself new skills and strategies so that I can continue to evolve and diversify myself as both a teacher and artist.
